ABOUT THE CATALINA 446

The 446 from Catalina incorporates crisp, contemporary styling with proportions and features that make Catalinas comfortable and secure underway and on the hook. Based on a new hull design with a long waterline and moderate beam and freeboard, the 446 has excellent performance potential. The hull form is optimized to provide the gentle, predictable motion underway, which is so appreciated in other Catalina models.

Below deck, the Catalina 446 offers a luxurious, yet practical interior with generous use of solid teak door frames, trims and fiddles and attention to detail and functionality throughout. Natural light and ventilation comes through many opening hatches and full length deck windows, while angled companionway steps ensure safe and easy access. The L-shaped galley to port offers a very useable space with ample storage cabinets, draws and shelving. The Corian bench tops and wood trims offering plenty of space for food preparation and a separate bench next to the companionway steps, with draws further increases the storage. Cold storage is abundant and the 3 burner stove with range hood makes cooking for the whole family a breeze.

Moving forward through the salon is safe and easy, thanks to full-length steel grab handles within easy reach. The expertly crafted varnished teak interior exudes elegance and sophistication, with signature bench seats with cocktail table that lowers to convert to a full-length settee. The folding and lowering high-gloss dinette is surrounded by plush seating that ensures for an opulent look and feel.

The Catalina 446 is designed for longer range ocean cruising and the need for a dedicated forward facing navigation station has not been overlooked, complete with battery switches, breakers and electrical panel keeps the area functional.

The master forward cabin features a queen-sized island berth with abundant storage, while the en suite head offers a separate shower stall and a modern, upmarket feel. The starboard aft guest cabin has separate access to the main head, a large comfortable double berth, angled for easy access and greater headroom. It also allows for full access to the rear of the engine. The Catalina 446 incorporates an innovative multifunctional aft cabin on the port side. This cabin is a flexible space that can easily be converted to whatever your cruising style requires, from sleeping quarters, storage, or a work room with a bench.

On deck, the Catalina 446 boasts a walk through transom complete with storage lockers and swim ladder.  The twin helms are mounted on steel binnacles and the engine throttle control side mounted on the cockpit combing within easy reach of the wheel. The main engine controls and optional chartplotter are centrally located at the rear of the large cockpit table and easily seen from either helm.  High-backed seats provide maximum safety and comfort and the cockpit table incorporates useful grab rails and can be clad in teak with an electric fridge to keep drinks icy cold. All control lines are led aft to the companionway winches, with excess rope kept tidy secured to either side of the companionway.  The genoa sheet winches are within easy reach of the helms, making short-handed sailing easy. Movement down the side decks is unhindered and safe, with steel grab rails that run from the cockpit to the foredeck. The inboard chainplates allow for tighter genoa sheeting when not using the optional self-tacking jib.  The dual anchor roller allows for the use of a downwind sail and the deep anchor well makes use of a divider to keep the area organised.

For blue water cruising or weekend jaunts, the Catalina 446 with its easily driven hull, user friendly sail plan and inviting below deck accommodations is a serious contender amongst all quality brands and ideally suited to Australian waters.
